We equip our members with the analytical skills to interpret global economic trends, market cycles, and geopolitical developments, cultivating the next generation of strategic, macro-driven investors.
The NU Global Macro Fund is a student-run initiative dedicated to exploring the intersection of macroeconomic trends and multi-asset investing. Founded to address the growing importance of macroeconomic literacy and analytical rigor in investment careers, the Fund aims to deepen members understanding of how global forces—ranging from central bank policies and business cycles to geopolitical shifts—drive financial markets.
Through structured research and strategic portfolio management, our team develops thematic investment frameworks that integrate top-down macroeconomic indicators with sector-level and asset-class positioning. We maintain a diversified approach across equities, fixed income, and real assets, continually adjusting allocations based on economic data, valuation signals, and market dynamics.
Our overarching goal is to cultivate sophisticated macroeconomic literacy, rigorous analytical skills, and disciplined investment processes among our members, preparing them for successful careers in finance, asset management, and beyond.

The NU Macro Fund employs a disciplined, research-driven global macroeconomic investment strategy, built upon the belief that macroeconomic forces profoundly influence market cycles, asset valuations, and cross-asset performance.
Our systematic approach integrates rigorous quantitative analysis with thoughtful qualitative assessments to identify and capitalize on investment opportunities arising from global economic shifts, market dynamics, and investor behavior.
Investment Process
Macroeconomic & Market Assessment
We begin with an extensive analysis of global economic indicators—including yield curve dynamics, inflation trends, central bank policies, and geopolitical developments—to identify the prevailing market cycle and investment environment. This foundational step ensures our strategy remains closely aligned with current macroeconomic conditions.
Thematic Identification
Leveraging our macro assessment, we identify high-conviction investment themes likely to outperform over a tactical horizon (1–2 months). For example, if cyclical sectors become attractively undervalued following prolonged underperformance, we may tactically overweight these sectors, anticipating a cyclical recovery. Similarly, we monitor policy shifts or macro catalysts that could favor specific regions or asset classes, adjusting our positioning proactively.
Tactical Asset Allocation
Guided by identified macro themes, we strategically allocate capital across multiple asset classes, selecting specific investment vehicles (primarily ETFs) to efficiently implement our views. Our portfolio typically includes equity ETFs (across sectors and regions reflecting macro themes), fixed income ETFs (balancing yield with risk management considerations), and alternative asset ETFs (such as real estate or commodities) that serve as diversifiers or hedges against inflation and volatility.
Risk Management & Portfolio Monitoring
Finally, we actively monitor portfolio risk by continuously tracking macroeconomic signals and adjusting exposures to mitigate potential downside. This disciplined approach includes trimming positions in sectors showing overheating signs, adding defensive or counter-cyclical assets during periods of heightened volatility, and utilizing explicit hedging instruments, such as inverse ETFs, to maintain our target risk profile.
We strongly believe that understanding global macroeconomic forces is crucial—not just for investing success, but also for developing a deeper, more nuanced perspective on the world.
We strive to create a community that actively shares insights, encourages intellectual curiosity, and fosters genuine dialogue about financial markets, economics, and global trends. Our monthly meetings, guest speakers, and interactive seminars are open to everyone, reflecting our commitment to accessibility, transparency, and collaboration.
While we maintain a selective application process for formal research positions, we firmly believe that educational opportunities and knowledge-sharing should never be gatekept. We welcome all students who have an interest in global macro investing, economics, or financial markets, regardless of their background or prior experience, to engage with and contribute to our learning community.
